Guillaume Apollinaire

Guillaume Apollinaire was a French poet, playwright, and art critic of Polish descent, who lived from 1880 to 1918. He is considered one of the pioneers of modern poetry and a champion of Cubism and Surrealism, terms that he coined himself. He wrote innovative poems, such as the calligrams, and influential plays, such as The Breasts of Tiresias, before dying of influenza during the World War I.
